John is currently a provisional psychologist, completing his Master of Professional Psychology
at Southern Cross University (SCU), and has been working full-time as a disability support
worker for the past six years. This has provided him with valuable insights into the diverse
needs of those with a physical, developmental, or psychosocial disability.
John is Maori, made in Wellington New Zealand, and grew up to respect all peoples and their
cultural and religious values and beliefs. He is now an Australian citizen, living and working
here for the past few decades, and completing his psychology studies.
John is also a NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL) Provider, and his previous roles
working as a Disability Support Worker (DSW) has given him experience in working with
adults with range of physical, developmental, and psychosocial challenges. He has provided group
support in recreational and community inclusion activities, as well as one-on-one support to
low-functioning, higher-needs clients. As an SIL provider this has included facilitation and
mentoring of other support workers to deliver bespoke solutions for clients.
John's previous business and employee experience has prepared him well for the role of a
provisional psychologist, and he looks forward to making a positive contribution to all peoples
across the lifespan in our community.
